UFO Tightens Up Its Membership

Arguably the most exclusive freight network in the world, Universal Freight Organisation (UFO) celebrated its 15th anniversary last year and over the next 12 months intends in tightening up its membership.

President/C.E.O., Rachel Humphrey said "Any weak members are being identified and replaced and only strong companies will remain. We are not intending on getting bigger, just better. Our vision, which we are fast achieving, is to be an exclusive network with the highest calibre companies on-board."

UFO was formed in 2000 and is today an ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 global community of independent forwarders in 110+ countries operating from 400+ overseas offices with its Head Office based in the UK.

The cargo industry is now rife with freight networks that vary in size and membership benefits but one thing remains consistent, their Members are constantly looking over their shoulder to see another agent from their country poaching business. This often happens at the annual meetings of general cargo networks.

At UFO gatherings, participants are secure in the knowledge that they are the only agent from their country in the room (except USA and China). While UFO boasts a family-like environment it is also keen to maintain its status as a high quality and serious group of professionals. Recruitment Director, Sam Wilcox explains "Our Members give priority to their fellow UFO partners and over the years we have rolled out numerous tools in order to make working together easier."

While their current membership list is not public, the majority of companies that joined UFO 16 years ago still remain and have rarely missed an annual meeting since. This shows the loyalty and commitment that these influential companies have to UFO and why the network boasts a consistent renewal rate of 98%.

Programs put in place by UFO management ensure that there are a few things you won't find within their network including slow responses and late payments. Rachel adds "As our organisation is one of the only exclusive networks in the world, it is vital that we continually monitor the quality of our membership. We need to ensure that we have recruited the right company in each country, who perform in a conscientious, diligent and professional manner. We regularly ask for our member's opinion on the level of service that their fellow partners are providing and take action where necessary."
